Panchayat teams

A panchayat team is a community team, not a title

The visible unit of this movement is the panchayat — not a designation, not a post. Just people who decided to do the month's task together.

How a team works

01

Listen

Identify a local need by talking to residents and those already working on it.

02

Act

Every activity has a named organiser, a defined purpose, and simple participation information.

03

Report

Document who took part, what changed, and what's next — so progress can be reviewed in public.

One guardrail

Participation is voluntary, and every public activity follows the movement's community guidelines.

What the monthly action day actually looks like

A week before

The organiser confirms the site

One public place is named, and word goes out in the panchayat — WhatsApp, word of mouth, a printed notice.

On the day

Whoever shows up, works

No attendance sheet, no minimum headcount required. The task gets done with however many people turn up.

Same evening

The organiser logs it

Photos, a headcount, what was actually achieved — filed the same day, while it's accurate.

Within a year

The team goes back

For Clean-pillar work especially, the same site is revisited later to check the result actually held.

Find your team

Bharatpur is where we are starting, and three names from a single panchayat are what make the first team there. Register yours and we will tell you the moment the other two arrive.

Questions people ask

How many people does a panchayat team need?

Three from the same panchayat is where we will start one — below that we would be calling one person a team, which is a lie in the count. After that there is no minimum; some months three people finish the task, and the named organiser matters more than the headcount.

Is there a cost to join a team?

No. Materials for the monthly action are arranged locally or by the movement — no volunteer is asked to pay to take part.

What if our panchayat can't do the month's task?

Report that honestly too. A panchayat that says "we couldn't get to it this month" is more useful to us than one that stays silent.
